Wow! What a fantastic time we had at the Julia Morgan House on May 4th.
How exciting it was to see graduates from 20 cohorts at this event, as well as prospective students, faculty and staff! Over 130 people attended and were treated to a speech from new COB Dean Dr. J.F. Coget, and OEMBA updates from Board Chair Lisa Duncan. Attendees enjoyed light hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine, valet parking and networking bingo at the beautiful Julia Morgan House and patio. (Did you know Julia Morgan was the first woman architect licensed in California?) View more photos below.
Lisa's updates included:
Who we are: The OEMBA comprises 1,000 alumni and current students of Sac State's EMBA program. The organization started informally in 2005 and was formalized in 2009. After a COVID-19 hiatus, a new board was named in late 2022.
What we’ve done: The board has held monthly meetings since August 2022; established our mission, vision and values; rebranded (logo, graphics); established regular communication channels (LinkedIn, Facebook, new Instagram page, email newsletters and announcements); built this website; organized five events (fall social at Mix, three happy hours, spring social); and conducted a benchmarking survey to learn what you value in the OEMBA and help us make improvements in the future.
The value for you in the organization:
In the survey, you told us you wanted networking events. Our plan is to have an event every other month. Two will be bigger, catered events and the others will be more casual happy hours.
You also told us you want education. We're planning on providing online educational lunch-and-learn events so everyone can attend, including those who live outside the Sacramento area.
Additional survey feedback: You prefer email and LinkedIn, followed by Instagram. Sixty percent of you still connect with your cohort a few times a year; help us spread the word about OEMBA activities! You're also interested in a marketplace, alumni on the move, alumni making a difference, and spotlights—great! But we need your participation for those to be effective.
Ways you can give back to our OEMBA community:
Be a speaker/teacher for an online educational session.
Let a current student work with you/your company on their capstone project.
Support an EMBA graduate-owned business (upcoming website feature).
Serve on the board or on a committee (we especially need help with events!).
Be a cohort liaison.

We look forward to seeing all of you again (and those of you who couldn't attend) at our next event!
